| 2. How many children can you accommodate living at MHOH, and what ages? |
Answer: We are licensed for 20 children ranging in ages from birth to 17 years old.
| 3. How long have you been in operation? |
Answer: Marla’s House of Hope began caring for children in 1998.
| 4. Are the children orphans? Where do they come from? |
Answer: All of our children in residence are from homes in crisis, not orphans. All of our children have been removed from their home by the Belize Ministry of Human Development.
| 5. Do you accept children other than those placed in the home by the Ministry of Human Development? |
Answer: No. The mission of MHOH is to provide care for children that have been removed from an abusive environment by the Ministry of Human Development.
| 6. Do you have all girls or boys and do the children live in a house or dormitory? |
Answer: We have both boys and girls living at MHOH. Our children live in a family-style home with a House Mother. The 4000+ square feet house has a boys wing and a girls wing which can house up to 8 boys and 16 girls respectively. The boys wing and the girls wing each have a separate bedroom/bathroom for the overnight caretakers. The house has a spacious kitchen, dining room, living room, office, study room and a sick room plus a multi-equipment playground.

| 7. How long can children stay at MHOH? |
Answer: The goal of MHOH for each child is permanency placement. When possible, the child returns to the family. The average child stays 18 months; however the stay varies depending on the family's ability to become a stable unit capable of caring for the child. Children will continue to be cared for by MHOH until they are placed in a permanent home environment or until they are 18 years of age when by law they are no longer allowed to stay in the Home.
| 8. Do the children attend school? |
Answer: Yes, all children attend School unless there is extraordinary circumstance which would prevent them from attendance.
| 9. Do the children attend Church? |
Answer: Yes, all children attend Church on a regular basis. A local Belmopan Church has “adopted” the children from MHOH and provide bus service as well as the appropriate supervision needed for the children.
| 10. Are your children adoptable? |
Answer: In general, no, our children are not adoptable. The Ministry of Human Development strives to reunite the children with their families. All questions concerning adoption of children in Belize should be directed to the Ministry of Human Development.
| 11. Do you take children with severe behavioral problems or violent children? |
Answer: MHOH is not staffed or equipped to care for children with advanced behavior problems. Violence within our home is not tolerated and will result in immediate out-placement from our Home.
| 12. Do you have a Volunteer Program? |
Answer: Absolutely! There are many ways to volunteer at MHOH! Volunteers are very important to the ministry for children. Volunteer opportunities allow you, your church, your business or civic group to help at-risk children, who have been neglected or abused, make a new start in their lives. Your donation or volunteer work will help change the life of a child and maybe your own. Learn more about volunteering...
