Committee was formed by Dr. Marla Holder to address the issue of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
March 1998 Ministry of Human Development placed the first Child in the Shelter located in the Help for Progress building located in Belmopan and the Shelter was officially named “Marla’s House of Hope” in memory of founder Dr. Marla Holder who died in January 1998.
August 2003 With support from the British High Commission and many local people and businesses in the Belmopan area, the Home was relocated to a new building located on 1 acre donated by the city of Belmopan.
April 2005
The Home was destroyed by fire and through God’s protecting hand all children were safely evacuated from the house and relocated to temporary facilities.
August 2006 Through the generosity of people and business throughout Belize and the United States, the Children were moved back into the renovated and expanded Home in time to start the new School year.
Today
Marla’s House of Home currently is home for 20 of God’s Children who are part of the 300 Children that the Ministry of Human Development has placed in our care.
